Women’s Health Check in Mona Vale

Proactive Care for Every Stage of Life

Comprehensive Women’s Health Assessments

Life can be busy, and many women spend much of their time caring for family, work, and others around them. In the middle of these responsibilities, it is easy for your own health to slip down the list. Regular health checks give you the opportunity to pause and focus on your wellbeing.

Many health conditions, such as heart disease and some cancers, can develop slowly and may not cause symptoms at first. A women’s health check allows your GP to review your health and identify any concerns early.

At Mona Vale Doctors, we see women’s health checks as part of preventative, whole-person care, designed for women and for anyone with female reproductive health needs. During your appointment, your GP will talk with you about your lifestyle, medical history, family history, and any changes you have noticed in your health. This helps us build a clear picture of your overall wellbeing.

Our approach is personalised and evidence-based. We follow Australian preventive health guidelines used in general practice to recommend screening and health checks that suit your age, health history, and personal needs.

For many women, these appointments become a valuable moment to step back and review their health. You can ask questions, talk through any concerns, and leave with a clear plan to support your health and wellbeing over time.

Women's Health Check Mona Vale

What We Assess

A women’s health check looks at several areas of your health and wellbeing. Your GP will review recommended screening, talk through your lifestyle and medical history, and check for early signs of common health conditions. These assessments help find risks early and support your long-term health.

Lifestyle review

We talk about nutrition, physical activity, alcohol intake, and smoking or vaping. Small lifestyle changes can make a meaningful difference to your long-term health

Diabetes screening

Blood tests may be recommended to check blood sugar levels and assess your risk of type 2 diabetes.

Breast health assessment

We discuss breast health, check for any symptoms or changes, and arrange breast screening referrals where appropriate. In Australia, women aged 50 to 74 are encouraged to have a mammogram every two years through the BreastScreen program.

Skin check

Your GP can assess your skin for new or changing moles or spots. Regular skin checks are important in Australia, where melanoma is one of the most common cancers (Cancer Australia).

Mental health and wellbeing

Your GP may ask about stress, mood, and emotional wellbeing. These conversations help identify concerns early and support your overall health.

Hormonal and menopause health

For women approaching midlife, we may discuss changes in periods, sleep, mood, or energy levels and provide guidance around menopause and hormonal health.

Cardiovascular health

We check your blood pressure and review your risk of heart disease. In some cases, we may discuss further testing, such as a CT coronary calcium score, if it is clinically appropriate.

Cervical screening

Cervical screening helps detect early changes that may lead to cervical cancer. In Australia, the National Cervical Screening Program recommends screening every five years for eligible women aged 25 to 74. Your GP can discuss when screening is recommended and arrange testing if needed.

Weight and BMI assessment

Your weight and body mass index help us understand your metabolic health and your risk of conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

Bone health and osteoporosis risk

Your GP will review risk factors for bone loss and fractures. This becomes particularly important during midlife and after menopause.

Screening for bowel cancer is recommended for many adults from midlife onwards. Your GP can explain the screening process and help organise testing. In Australia, people aged 45 to 49 can request their first bowel cancer screening kit by submitting a webform or calling 1800 627 701. People aged 50 to 74 receive a bowel cancer screening kit in the post every two years through the national screening program. These simple at-home tests play an important role in detecting bowel cancer early, when treatment is often most effective.

Sleep assessment

Sleep quality can affect energy levels, mood, and overall wellbeing. Your GP may ask about sleep patterns and discuss ways to support healthy sleep.

Bowel cancer screening

Sexual health

Your GP can also support you with your sexual health. This may include conversations about contraception, STI screening, menstrual concerns, or any symptoms or questions you may have. These discussions are private, respectful, and a normal part of looking after your overall health and wellbeing.

Family health history review

Understanding your family history can help identify risks for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, or certain cancers.

Individualised preventative health plan

At the end of your appointment, your GP will help create a personalised plan. This may include screening, lifestyle advice, and follow-up care to support your long-term health.

Preventative, Personalised and Ongoing

At Mona Vale Doctors, we believe good health care focuses on prevention, understanding your health, and supporting wellbeing over time.

During your women’s health check, your GP reviews your overall health and helps you understand your personal risk factors. Together, you can talk through screening, lifestyle habits, and practical steps that support your wellbeing now and in the future.

Seeing the same GP over time also supports continuity of care. As your doctor becomes familiar with your medical history, lifestyle, and health goals, it becomes easier to notice changes and provide care that suits your needs.

For many patients, this ongoing relationship becomes an important part of their healthcare. Your GP works as a trusted partner in your health, helping you plan ahead and supporting you through different stages of life.

Is This Health Check Right for You?

A women’s health check can be helpful at any stage of adulthood. Many women book one when they want to review their health, discuss screening, or talk through any concerns with their GP.

These checks are often most helpful for women in their 40s, 50s and 60s. At this stage of life, the risk of some health conditions begins to increase, and regular screening becomes more important. A health check allows your GP to monitor your health and recommend tests that are right for your age.

You may also benefit from a women’s health check if you have a family history or risk factors for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, or certain cancers. Your GP can help assess your risk and guide you on the next steps.

Many women also book a health check simply because they want to be proactive about their health. It is a chance to ask questions, review your wellbeing, and make a clear plan to support your health in the years ahead.
